Grid square locator
Maidenhead locators, or grid squares, describe a location in a few characters. Hams exchange them in contests, on VHF and in digital modes such as FT8.

Distances run between grid centers along a great circle, so they are approximate within the square size.
How it works
- A field is 20° of longitude by 10° of latitude. A four-character square such as FN31 covers 2° by 1°, and six characters narrow it to 5 by 2.5 minutes.
- Your location is read only if you press "Use my location", and it never leaves this page.
