Technician course

10 lessons that cover all 409 questions in the 2026-2030 Technician Class (Element 2) pool, valid July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2030. Each lesson is one topic of the official syllabus.

Your route

Your progress through the course shows here. It is worked out from your answers in this browser.

  1. Lesson 1: Commission’s Rules T1

6 exam questions, one from each of 6 groups.

The rules frame everything else in the course and need no math, so the course starts here.

  2. Lesson 2: Radio Wave Propagation T3

3 exam questions, one from each of 3 groups.

Frequency and wavelength come next, because bands, antennas and modes are all described in those terms.

  3. Lesson 3: Operating Procedures T2

3 exam questions, one from each of 3 groups.

With the bands and signal paths in hand, the procedures for repeaters, simplex and public service make sense.

  4. Lesson 4: Electrical Principles T5

4 exam questions, one from each of 4 groups.

Electrical principles come before components and circuits, because both build on voltage, current, resistance and power.

  5. Lesson 5: Electronic and Electrical Components T6

4 exam questions, one from each of 4 groups.

Components come next, described in the terms of the electrical principles lesson.

  6. Lesson 6: Practical Circuits T7

4 exam questions, one from each of 4 groups.

Practical circuits combine components into the radios, meters and test equipment in a station.

  7. Lesson 7: Signals and Emissions T8

4 exam questions, one from each of 4 groups.

Signals and emissions explain how voice, Morse code and data ride on a radio wave, building on frequency and bandwidth.

  8. Lesson 8: Antennas and Feed Lines T9

2 exam questions, one from each of 2 groups.

Antennas and feed lines rely on wavelength from the propagation lesson and on SWR from the practical circuits lesson.

  9. Lesson 9: Amateur Radio Practices T4

2 exam questions, one from each of 2 groups.

Station setup and operating controls bring together the equipment, power and antennas from the earlier lessons.

  10. Lesson 10: Safety T0

3 exam questions, one from each of 3 groups.

Safety comes last because it draws on everything before it: electrical hazards, antenna work and RF exposure.

Why this order

The course starts with the rules, which frame everything else and need no math, then covers how radio waves travel, because bands, antennas and modes are described by frequency and wavelength. Operating procedures follow. The electrical lessons build in sequence: principles, then components, then the circuits made from them, then signals and antennas. Station setup and safety come last because they draw on every earlier lesson.

The official syllabus numbers the topics differently. Switch the route to syllabus order to see them as the question pool lists them; the lessons are the same either way.

When a lesson is complete

The exam draws one question from each group in the syllabus, so each lesson tracks its groups. A group is ready when you have answered every one of its questions and learned at least 80 percent of them; a question counts as learned when your last three answers to it were correct. A lesson is complete when all of its groups are ready.

Progress comes from your answers in this browser, wherever you gave them: lessons, study mode, guide quizzes and practice exams.
